A digital outing: how video games force us to understand our gender and sexuality

Growing up queer is the Dark Souls of adolescence. Not only are you thrust into a complicated world no one understands, but suddenly everyone tries to flatten you with their big monster fists because the person you want to have a consensual relationship with happens to be a bit different. While in Dark Souls you discover the dodge roll to survive, in real life I discovered video games. Yet it wasn’t until I was an adult that I realised the way it helped formed my identity as a gay, queer man. Be

Tayyabs restaurant review: 'The lamb chops are so striking an American pointed'

Staring down the double-barrell shotgun of England’s Long Winter, there are fewer words more comforting than “let’s get a curry”. Dark clouds swarmed around East London, flooding the streets with its spit. My friend and I battled through the horizontal rain huddled underneath a single umbrella to reach the restaurant, until we were confronted by a queue snaking out Tayyabs’ mouth. “This is why you get a reservation,” my friend said, smugly.

The staff ushered people inside to queue, swapping the

'I have over 1 million YouTube subscribers but had to come out as trans alone'

“I don’t really know how anyone could look at the United Kingdom and say this is a country that treats transgender people well,” Abigail Thorn’s words rang in my head as I approached the glittery billboard of the Southwark Playhouse. We spoke earlier in the day about her new play, The Prince, over the phone before the press night. The crowd spilled out of the theatre: an eclectic mix of queer people noticeably cooler than me, from their fresh clothes down to the effortless way they spoke to stra

Chef who used nan's recipes to ‘survive’ makes best Macedonian food

When Spasia Dinkovski finally popped up on the video call, she was still in her apron after only briefly tearing herself away from the kitchen.

I tried to pin the chef and rising foodstagram star down for a few weeks, but she has never been busier. Spasia runs Mystic Borek, a Balkan (with heavy influences from, specifically, Macedonia) kitchen that’s become one of the shining lights of London’s popup scene.

I would know, as I first encountered her work at The Hoxton Hotel’s Albie restaurant, l

The Circle’s Manrika says she couldn’t get out of bed after death threats

THE Circle's Manrika revealed she couldn't get out of bed for three days after she received terrifying death threats from viewers.

The 24-year-old Brummie ended up in second place to her love interest Felix - real name Natalya - in season three of the Channel 4 show.

But what should have been a celebration for The Circle's Manrika Khaira turned out to be a nightmare - as she's been bombarded with 'vile, racist, sexist abuse' from sick trolls.

"It's taken a toll on my mental health that I didn

'I tried Kylie Minogue's prosecco and it was almost - almost - as good as Disco'

On May 28, 1968, the planets aligned over Melbourne, Australia and suddenly a pop princess was born. Kylie Minogue's illustrious career has spanned five different decades - with a number one album in each of those - and one victorious court case with Kylie Jenner, until finally taking on her ultimate challenge: prosecco.

The leading figure for girls, gays and your dad realised there was one homosexual battleground she hasn't slayed. But bottomless brunch could only exist for so long without Kyl

Amazon's best whisky deals from a food & drink editor like Jura and Glenfiddich

Ahh whisky, I don't know what I'd do without you. Probably have a million less hangovers but I just take that as cosmic punishment for having the best drink in the world. But of all the places I buy it, I normally don't go for Amazon.

That is until Amazon started putting on big deals that makes them cheaper than the supermarket. Tired of being charged a billion pounds at Tesco, I turned to the marketplace giant and found they have deals on for all their alcohol - spirits, beer, tonic water, the

'My cat reviewed an Amazon cat basket and scratching post and it's purrfect'

Cats are notoriously hard to please and none-so more than my Theo. One day he won't touch his dry food and the next I'm having to wrangle it away from him because he ate a daily allowance in two minutes. So trying to find a cat basket on Amazon was like trying to decipher the Enigma Code.

That's until the Amazon Basics cat condo tree tower caught my eye. Two things appealed to me: the low price and how incredibly cute the little cat in the image looks. Theo, being much cuter, would reach some f

'I compared MyProtein and Huel to find the best protein shake'

Most people who step foot into the gym are also familiar with protein shakes. Forty to 60 grams of protein in one 500ml container is one of the most efficient ways to hit your macro goals and most of it is made from eggs, so vegetarians are on board too. But the problem I most hear about: they taste like s***.

I disagree - I've been drinking the good stuff since I was a stick thin 16-year-old who didn't know how nutrition worked. But now I'm a giant 29-year-old whose mum, last time I hugged her
